QSTec enabling solar power.

Press Release

Shams Generation creating the next generation of solar citizens

Publication Date:
12/03/2017
Students and teachers from Qatar Academy (QA) gathered to showcase their solar art creations in an exhibition of their works at Qatar Foundation’s recreations center. The only thing matching the sun’s energy at the opening of this grade 5 solar art exhibition is the enthusiasm of the students about showing their projects to parents, friends and fellow students.

We spoke to QA teacher Beckie Dobbs about her experience with QSTec's Shams Generation solar learning inititiaive and how it benefits the students.

Now in its third year this multi-award winning solar learning initiative was developed by QSTec to address the knowledge gap within the region on the use of solar energy and its applications. SG is a hands on-solar energy and environmental sustainability education program that combines science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics that has reached over 16,000 students in over 20 schools across Qatar.

QSTec supply schools and teachers with 3 levels of solar learning kits and program curriculum that range from students aged from 8 years of age right through to university level.  QSTec provides hands on workshops for teachers on how to deliver this program to students using the solar kits. The students then bring in used items from home that are then recycled and turned into solar art works and designs.
